ASTM and NEU Sign Memorandum of Understanding
ASTM International and NEU: An ACI Center of Excellence for Carbon Neutral Concrete have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at reducing and eliminating the carbon footprint of concrete in the built environment.
The MoU, signed by Lawrence Sutter, NEU board president, and Katharine Morgan, ASTM International president, will allow both organizations to effectively and efficiently collaborate and reduce redundant efforts on issues related to carbon-neutral concrete. Learn more.

Aircraft Systems
A newly proposed standard will cover the design of hybrid-electric powerplants and engines [More].
Cannabis
The committee has approved four new standards [More].
The first standard will provide a method to establish cannabinoid content in cannabis and hemp samples.
A second will aid laboratories in analyzing cannabis and hemp samples to establish pesticide concentration levels – or lack thereof – to ensure products meet regulatory requirements within appropriate jurisdictions.
The third standard will provide a method to test for terpenes and cannabinoids in cannabis using gas chromatography.
The fourth will aid manufacturers, regulatory bodies, and other cannabis industry stakeholders by providing a new test method for metals in cannabis.
Additionally, a new standard on medicinal-use cannabis inflorescence has been developed [More].
Soil and Rock
The committee is developing a proposed standard that will provide guidance on analyzing soil for nutrients using hyperspectral sensors [More].

Standards Expert Program Returns

ASTM's Standards Expert Program (SEP) — postponed for the past two years — returned in October with standards experts Myra Magabilin (Bureau of Philippine Standards) and Fabian Scott (Barbados National Standards Institution) meeting with, among others, staff from American National Standards Institute, International Code Council, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
