ASTM Awards Scholarships to Four Graduate Students
Four $10,000 scholarships have been awarded to graduate students whose studies include the use of technical standards.
They are (clockwise in photo above): Sarah Boardman, a participating member of ASTM, pursuing her Ph.D. in materials science at the Colorado School of Mines; Kennedy Brown, a ASTM student member working towards her master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering at the University of Vermont; Menachem Sokolic, an environmental consultant and ASTM member since 2017, pursuing his master’s degree in business administration at Rutgers University; and Diana Wyman, a Ph.D. candidate in fiber and polymer science at North Carolina State University.

ASTM Receives Award to Develop Construction Sector Technology Roadmap
ASTM International has been awarded funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop a roadmap for guidance and adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies in the construction sector. Learn more.

Wohlers Associates Launches New Website, Publishes Wohlers Report Executive Summary
Wohlers Associates, powered by ASTM International, recently launched a new, more interactive website. The site will serve as a hub for knowledge acceleration within the additive manufacturing (AM) industry.

New Subcommittee Will Focus on Chemical Substances in Consumer Products
Operating under the jurisdiction of ASTM’s consumer products committee, a new subcommittee will develop standards on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) that are present in consumer products.
PFAS are a group of chemicals that are used to make fluoropolymer coatings and products that resist heat, oil, stains, grease and water. Learn more.

125TH ANNIVERSARY CASE STUDY CONTEST
As ASTM International prepares to celebrate its 125th Anniversary in 2023, we want to recognize the tremendous work of our volunteer members by highlighting ASTM standards that are broadly used and proven effective by industry. All committees are invited to to share examples of standards that have made an impact.
Winning committees will receive: recognition in ASTM 125th Anniversary communications and campaigns; a $1,250 deposit into each of the winning committees’ funds to be used as desired; and recognition on ASTM social media channels.
Submission Guidelines
First, notify your staff manager of your intent to submit a case study (limit of 3 submissions per committee). Then download and complete this submission form in its entirety (maximum 6 pages). Submit the form to your Executive Subcommittee for review and approval. Then send your approved submissions no later than September 23, 2022 to kkoperna@astm.org.

ASTM Board Chair Speaks to Students in Guatemala
ASTM's Board Chair Cesar Constantino, along with ASTM’s Latin American Representative María Isabel Barrios, recently participated in a student outreach program conducted in cooperation with the Instituto del Cemento y del Concreto de Guatemala in La Antigua.
Over 40 students attended the event in person, with an additional 40 students joining virtually. Presentations included an overview of ASTM, its procedures and electronic tools, the cement (C01) and concrete and concrete aggregates (C09) committees, ASTM programs for students, and more. Also joining the program virtually were representatives of ASTM’s Student Chapter at Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología (UTEC) in Lima, Peru.
